Eating distress has the highest mortality rates of all mental illness and causes serious psychological distress, yet it is often seen as a “fad” or a fashion driven desire. The key to understating eating distress is that food and size are used as a way to control or deal with emotions and this can take many form either through starving oneself or indeed overeating. The Marino Therapy Centre in Dublin is dedicated to helping people with eating distress. Lee is someone who has been through therapy at the Marino Centre and has come out the other side and is now studying to be able to help others similarly suffering from eating distress. She explained to Miriam Gormally how it all began.
