While the ordaining of women remains a controversal subject within the Catholic Church, it has been around for much longer within the Church of Ireland. Despite that, it is still an area where clerical women are breaking ground. Ása (pronounced Awsa) Ólafsdőttir, from Iceland, is the first female rector in the parish of Dun Laoghaire. Miriam Gormally spoke with her about being a woman in a clerical role.
They also discussed the issue of Fr. Tony Flannery and the subject of women’s ordination.
Miriam began by asking Ása whether people in her parish might take some time to adjust to a female cleric.
