St Patrick’s College award

Fr Michael McCullagh CM, spiritual advisor to seminarians in Maynooth College, recently celebrated 40 years as a priest. Looking at topics like relationship, marriage and celibacy, he talks candidly to Miriam Gormally about the varied and challenging life of a priest. As a spiritual advisor he also looks at the differences between his role as a priest and the role that the current seminarians will be undertaking.

What a beautiful interview. I love the way Michael speaks of priesthood in such an ordinary way, looking at it alongside married life. that he will never be the age of present-day young people is a freeing way of looking at others in their terms and not trying to box them in any way. I still remember an earlier interview Michael gave when he spoke of prayer in terms of “Be yourself, be silent, be nothing.” It still speaks to my heart.

Do you know how I can get a hold of Michael. My son is travelling to Ireland next week and I would love for them to get together. Michael and I did AIDS ministry in the U.S. 30 years ago.
