The Samuel Programme
Anne-Marie Whelan is the Evangelisation and Vocations Officer with the Sisters of Bon Secours. Based in Cork, Anne-Marie has been in this new role since last November. Anne-Marie’s role is to spread the “work and mission of the Sisters of Bon Secours through faith-based programmes for young adults”. She also works closely with the congregation’s Vocation Director, Sr Bridget O’Sullivan and Sr Fedelina Berru Peña, a sister from Peru now living in Ireland.
One programme that she is particularly interested in is the Samuel programmed. It provides an opportunity for young people aged 18-35 to learn about discernment and how to put God at the centre of their decision-making. Looking at the practice of Lectio Divina, it offers personal accompaniment and spiritual guidance in helping people become more focused on the vocational choices that are out there for them and to see what they are being called to. However it moves beyond the traditional idea of vocation as something to be limited to religious life and opens them up to other vocations that they might be called to including seminary, noviciate, marriage, voluntary work or career change.
